Position Summary

Merwel is seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Principal Software Quality Assurance Engineer with strong domain knowledge in 𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐒𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐒𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐒𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐩𝐨𝐬𝐭-𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐞 𝐬𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐬. This individual will play a lead role in validating critical trading workflows, regulatory reporting mechanisms, and financial system integrations across front, middle, and back office modules. You will be responsible for driving high-quality standards in complex financial platforms such as Calypso or equivalent, leading automation initiatives, and mentoring QA teams in an agile environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the quality assurance strategy for trading and derivatives systems across the full trade lifecycle (execution, booking, confirmation, settlement, and reporting).
  • Design, implement, and execute manual and automated test cases for derivatives products including swaps, options, futures, and structured trades.
  • Validate trade booking, lifecycle event processing, and accounting flows across front, middle, and back office modules.
  • Develop test scenarios to cover regulatory reporting obligations (CFTC, EMIR, CAD) and verify reporting accuracy under various edge cases.
  • Test collateral management workflows, margining scenarios, and ISDA SIMM implementations across systems.
  • Support Calypso platform upgrades or related financial application deployments with regression testing, UAT coordination, and defect triaging.
  • Use tools like CATT (Calypso Automation Test Tool) to build automation frameworks for regression and lifecycle event testing.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Agile methodologies to embed testing earlier in the SDLC (shift-left).
  • Analyze complex issues using logs, data extracts, and test artifacts to identify root causes and drive resolution.
  • Mentor junior QA engineers and establish test best practices for finance-focused system validation.

Required Qualifications

  • 9+ years of experience in QA or software testing within the capital markets domain.
  • Hands-on experience validating trade lifecycle events for derivatives products.
  • Strong understanding of financial regulatory reporting (CFTC, EMIR, CAD, etc.).
  • Experience testing payments, trade confirmations, and accounting modules.
  • Proven expertise in collateral management and ISDA SIMM processes as a tester.
  • Strong experience with financial systems such as Calypso, Murex, or similar platforms.
  • Familiarity with QA automation tools and frameworks, including experience with CATT or equivalent.
  • Expertise in Agile development practices with experience participating in scrum ceremonies and sprint planning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in test automation using Java, Python, or scripting languages.
  • Familiarity with SQL for data validation and reconciliation.
  • Exposure to test case design in BDD format using tools such as Cucumber or Gherkin.
  • Knowledge of DevOps or CI/CD pipelines for test integration (e.g., Jenkins, GitHub Actions).

Education & Certifications

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Financial Engineering, or related technical field.
  • Preferred: Industry certifications or Calypso platform certifications.
